Details

Imsea Wood is a nearly trackless forest that straddles the center of Oenklay. What settlements there are line the Imsea River or Lake Imsea - many of those along the Imsea River are minor river forts built by Anealeas to guard trade to and from the lake. The majority of the forest is wild lands populated by forest creatures, bandits, and worse. The Imsea River drains into a vast marshland on the Romhai/Anealeas border. Many channels of the river meander and rejoin the main channel, creating a labyrinth for the small boats that travel between the wood and the towns of Sopor and Walferd.

With prevailing winds from east and south bringing plenty of moisture, the Wood is a dense, temperate rain forest. Plant life grows quickly meaning settlements need to work hard to replace rotted wood structures, push back forest growth, and remove the moss that grows on anything and everything. Keeping a road open is all but impossible, so the Imsea River is the major trade route despite the dangers of navigating its path through Imsea Marsh.

Despite the difficulties of travel and settlement, many bandits, rebels, and runaways of various sorts manage to set up homes here. There is little interaction between these groups except to prey on one another. Other dangerous creatures, including monstrosities from the Other Realms, fiends, and malicious fey also lurk within. Of course undead also lurk in over grown ruins.
