Details

The region of Pylleden is two nations overlapping one another. One, dominated by Myrn, occupies the towns and cities, primarily along the Gulf of Peprae coast and the Madouj and Orenouj rivers. The other, dominated by jotyr, occupies the villages on the plains. This centuries long arrangement shows little chance of changing any time soon since the myrn and jotyr mostly ignore each other except when trading. The jotyr far outnumber the myrn, but are so spread out over the plains that merchants from other lands (mostly Praemmden and the nations of the Klothian Plains) visting the towns and cities assume the myrn are the more populous clade.

The division of the people manifests in governance. The coastal and riverside settlements of the myrn are run by the wealthiest and most powerful in a loose confederation with no clear ruler. The plains villages of the jotyr are universally run by eldest residents, with a strong tendency towards matriarchal village councils in the south and east of the region.

Gnomic peoples are well represented, especially in the foothills and mountains of the Platerg Mountains where some villages can be dominated by one gnomic clade or another. Main mountain settlements are subterranean and are dominated by vedeg and petreg.

The only rishic peoples regularly seen in Pylleden trace their roots to the kobold clade. Unlike in Oenklay, Pylledian kobolds mix freely with myrn and gnomics to the extent their photosensitivity allows. A few kobold dominated subterranean settlements exist in the mountains, but these are rare and small. The diurnal, open air lifestyle of the jotyr limits the interaction between themselves and kobolds.

The land is plagued by chimeric creatures - unnatural hybrids of creatures such as chimera, cockatrices, viper-fowl, peryton, and more. The source of these magical monstrosities is unknown other than the greatest population tends to be in the far eastern plains above the escarpment that runs through Bacompy, separating the easternmost lobe of Pylleden from the rest of the region. The brunt of the chimerics' depredations fall on the rural villages whether the plains settlements of the jotyr or the riverside villages and hamlets of the myrn.
